Upper Elementary Program:
Charlottesville Day School's Upper Elementary program offers students in grades four and five a challenging, well-rounded academic program that nurtures students' abilities to work independently and grow in a
cooperative learning environment. Upper Elementary students' days begin and end with a Homeroom period. During Homeroom, students connect with one another and their teachers. Teachers guide the students to organize their learning with their Student Planners. Core Subjects of Math, Language Arts/Humanities, Spanish, Health & Physical Fitness and Science each occur four or more periods per week and are thematically integrated with student electives that occur one – two times per week. Electives include but are not limited to Music (theory, theatre, choir), Philosophy/Ethics, Public Speaking, Art, Band, and Documentary/Film Making. Students have recess with their morning snack and after lunch. Students discover the joy of learning and demonstrate a positive attitude towards lifelong intellectual, moral and social growth.
