From the Head of School:
Dear CDS Families,
We are having a wonderful start to the school year! Thank you for sharing your children with us and being a part of our community.
As you may know, our teachers chose community as the first school-wide theme. Students are learning to work together, appreciate each other and share their interests. Through multi-age projects and flexible grouping, our students forge bonds across the community. This connectivity, in turn, informs their academic learning, helping them to naturally relate to topics.
We look forward to celebrating our school community at the first Whole School Circle on October 12 th at 11:00 . We especially encourage you to invite grandparents and special friends to join us at 10:30 AM for this Circle. Children will demonstrate their understanding of communities through songs, art, and readings. These presentations will reveal how students of different ages work with the same theme with increasing complexity.
Our teachers and parents have united in an effort to make our community more eco-friendly. As part of this initiative, the parent organization will hold a school rummage sale on the morning of October 20. We hope you will help in this effort to recycle those quality goods that are not being used in you home. Any unsold items will be given to the local Salvation Army. Please look out for details and participate in this event. You can learn more about this and other topics at the first Parent Association Meeting on October 9 th at 8:45 AM in the Theater.
We are planning a fall planting for our classroom garden beds. I encourage you to donate flats of pansies (one color, please) or bags of mulch so that students can practice their pattern work, apply measurement and geometric principles, and participate in hands-on science projects throughout the year. We want to keep growing and make the learning environment beautiful! We would like to start collecting the mulch and pansies on October 9 th, 10 th, 11 th and 12 th.
Again, I am glad you are part of this community and appreciate the trust you've given to our educators as they nurture your wonderful children.
